The full ruling explaining why NIH grant cuts are illegal came out today. It's just as blistering as the judge's oral remarks. And it uncovers fresh details in DOGE's role orchestrating the cuts ā and on the cuts at Columbia. Here are my top highlights from the 103-page ruling. š§µ

Confused by last nightās Senate vote on the āreconciliationā bill? āļøIt was a vote to allow the Senate to take a future vote š§¾It then has to go back to the House š°It is NOT the FY26 budget - it just keeps government open. ā ļøBut it DOES propose bad things for health - esp Medicaid & food stamps

So a former postdoc from our department had just started as a PO at NIH and was terminated in the wave of terminations last week. He is in the research triangle and a phenomenal scientist with expertise in stress and glia. If anyone in the RTI is hiring asap please let me know!

For 20 years I have used data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey to educate many thousands of students about trends in teen sexual behavior. Now, because Trump and MAGA are afraid of knowledge and education, access to this information -- vital knowledge -- is denied the public. (From my textbook:

"Health disparities research" is a field of study where researchers look at how things like race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status can influence health outcomes. Now any gov't website about this says "page not found". This is a dystopia that I did not imagine that we'd be living through.
