Lowered flags waved above the Minnesota Capitol as hundreds gathered Wednesday night for a candlelight vigil in honor of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and husband Mark.

Mark Hortman was married to one of the most powerful politicians in Minnesota. But to the people who knew him well, he was just Mark, their incredibly positive, kind friend who loved mountain biking, fine whiskeys, music, his family and playing pool.

Melissa Hortman, an avid gardener, selected many of the newest trees on the Capitol Mall. As hundreds gathered for a vigil, those trees stood as "living proof that the good that Hortman put out into the world isn’t going anywhere," writes columnist Jennifer Brooks.

Melissa and Mark were special people. I share about them in my recent newsletter. It's a lot and at the same time not enough to fully describe them and their impact on Minnesota. Please also join us for a Candlelight Vigil in their honor this evening at 8pm at the Capitol.

Final transportation bill part 2 MN's transpo system is financially unsustainable. Stats compared to other states: - 4th largest road network despite being - 12th in size - 23rd in population - metro road growth is in areas w/o the density & therefore property tax revenue capacity to maintain them

Final transportation bill part 1: The bad climate provision was thankfully removed from the bill, but I still could not support it. The funding cuts required in transportation were inequitable, and we missed an important opportunity to build the transit system our region needs.

This year, DFLers balanced the state budget and blocked the GOP from rolling back laws that make Minnesota a great place to live, work, and raise a family. We'll continue fighting for hardworking Minnesotans – because you deserve a fair shot to build a better life.

Our clean energy policies are working. Recent reports show that MN is #1 in the Midwest for energy efficiency & #10 nationwide; we’re hitting record lows in carbon emissions. Before passing our Energy Budget, I spoke about why it's critical to keep investing in clean energy for our entire state.

District 61a is home to the greatest number of people living with HIV. 1 in 10 in MN with HIV is unhoused. Having a home is the best path for stability, managing meds, and getting and keeping viral loads undetectable. We must do all that we can to ensure every MN, esp. those with HIV, has a home.

What a joy to meet w/ parents & volunteers of Collectiva Bilingua. More & more families value students having a bilingual edu: learning & meeting new cultures, perspectives, & people. We need to fully fund public schools so students reap these benefits & become adults ready for our diverse world.
