Finally wrote up my favorite games of the year, and tried to put into words why I think Shadow Labyrinth is this year's very best.

With respect to the folks writing them, but theres dozens of year-end Fortnite/Roblox articles out there and every single one of them reads like notes from a shareholder meeting. Games that, by design, dont lend themselves to opinions or insight don't get written about. It literally ain't that deep.

At two major AAA publishers, he was one of the rare few near the top able to shepherd some ambitious ideas into what could easily have been some cheap cash-in games. COD in particular has been chasing his shadow for nearly 20 years now. And sadly, he goes out like this. Just absolutely awful.

Rolled credits on Unbeatable. I have a list of nitpicks long as my arm, but all that fades way in the background behind the immeasurable amount of love bursting from every minute of this thing. If nothing else, it's the soundtrack of the year, and the best climax of the year by MILES.

I tried my best to yell about this when it came out, and it's in my GOTY list for the year, but damn it, people, To a T is an absolute joy of a game, esp. as a weird-ass allegory for a child living happily with disability. We will lose something special if Takahashi is done because of this.

I *just* watched Spinal Tap II Saturday, struck by just how warm it was while still being incredibly funny. He'd never have a run as legendary as everything between Spinal Tap and A Few Good Men, but seeing his name on a film/show, on either side of the camera, was always welcome. This is tragic.
