So questions that interest me more are “What is the first millennial movie” and “What is the last Gen X movie?” The latter should not include deliberate nostalgia plays.

Today’s Prince’s birthday, and in honor of what a huge basketball fan (and talented basketball player!) he was, here’s a photo of Prince and Spike courtside at the Garden.

I guess we have to wonder about whether the humanities and social sciences are too political now that we’ve seen with NSF and NIH that there are no hard or health sciences without politics.

Also TIL that Prince plays the iconic opening guitar riff on "Like a Prayer" and I will cringe in shame for at least a year for not realizing it because of course that's him. No one else sounds like that.

Do I own "Jungle Love" as a 12" single? You bet your ass I do. Do I try to do the little side shuffle dance and fail every time it's on? Without fail. They're supposed to be the better band at the beginning of the movie. Prince wasn't going to fuck with losers.

The whole bit with the mirror still kills. Iconic. The 80s were the best, and anyone who thinks it's cheesy just needs to get a better sense of humor. It's camp, not cheese. Big difference.

I've seen some folks chatting about Morris Day and the Time — who dropped out of the Freedom 250 concert, thank god — like they are a joke, like Milli Vanilli. Shut your mouth! The opening scene in "Purple Rain" is one of the greatest moments in music history.

The only thing I find interesting about Hakeem Jeffries is that he's Dr. Leonard Jeffries's nephew, and how that may have helped shape his political psychology. Though bland, this profile at least edges, briefly, towards this topic.
