This does something funky on the iPhone if you press and hold. Looks like it confuses the iPhone’s edge detection algorithm for creating stickers and does this fun loop instead.

First day feedback on ChatGPT Codex CLI. It seems very oriented towards providing a numerical menu of next actions. Which seems ok? Nothing wrong with reducing my turn to "2" to trigger the second option in a list but it's definitely got a totally different flavor than Claude Code or Gemini CLI.

Using an Intel Macbook from 2020 isn't cool but ChatGPT Desktop only supporting Apple Silicon makes me sad. Yes, backwards compatibility is hard. Yes it has diminishing returns. But a web app in an Electron wrapper with cloud-hosted inference is not a compelling reason to upgrade. (Claude works).

Yikes. I wish

supported auto-saving drafts. A single alt-left and *poof* your draft thread is gone forever.

Google's gemini-flash-lite is amazing and cheap. Task: image of a stamp, return json with postage rate, short description, keywords, etc. Image input token cost is 258 tokens per 768x768px tile (2-6 tiles per image for me). Processing 1028 images was ~$0.11 ~100 images per penny. Wow.

Yikes! Claude Code on the web / desktop app / mobile app is good. I've been happily using it the Claude Code CLI, but being able to kick-off sessions from one device (including from mobile), continue them elsewhere, then directly Open a PR for review feels like a super power.

I’m going to be the old man (41) who talks about understanding the code the AI generates and being able to write it by hand. The kids will say I’m out of date, and I’ll never be sure they’re wrong. The indignity will never be lost on me that I’m talking about hand-writing god damn Javascript.

Some people don’t like mayonnaise because they think it tastes gross and those people, they are wrong. Some people don’t like mayonnaise because they’ve seen it served from a bag-in-a-box and those people, they get a pass.

Seeing the increasing number of tariff lawsuits (yesterday Crocs filed a lawsuit for 55m, Costco 18B, etc) and impracticality of refunding consumers I’m calling it — Congress will try and pass a law to retroactively legalize tariffs (Supreme court won’t care) and will funnel refunds as tax returns.

Nothing says LLM security theater like Claude Code asking for permission to run `cat filename` in the terminal to read a file in the project folder. It has tools for that, but sometimes, like a human, it prefers the hard way. We are still obviously in the early days of all this mess.

Did you know Apple still sells "iTunes Match"? Unlimited streaming / storage of songs from your local collection to your devices and ad-free iTunes radio for $25/yr. The unchanged button design hints how little Apple cares about it but unlike Google Play Music (2011-2020) it's still chugging along.

Me: Searches Spotify for an artist, navigates to the album view and listens to an entire album start to finish. Spotify: Great! Now let's autoplay a different album from five years prior and make it impossible to disable this behavior. WATF. I miss rdio.

Holy shit windows+x is my Windows PowerTool of the week. Easy access to windows functions with the keyboard or a single click. Yes please. Apparently it's called the "Windows Power Users Menu" or just the WinX menu and can alternately be accessed by right clicking on the Start button. Who knew?

Node Version Manager (nvm) is slow, so slow you shouldn't use it locally. The init script adds a 900ms delay to spawning a new terminal (zsh on macOS). Usually shell scripts are "fast enough" but each call to awk, sed, grep is a new process and each command substitution "$(foo)" forks. It adds up.

Gotta love that it's impossible to report content (spam, etc) on GitHub via Mobile. The GitHub app redirects to mobile safari, but the green "Submit" button is helpfully covered by an overflowing footer.

If you're a nerd shopping for a WiFi device I found an excellent resource:
www.wiisfi.com
. (Wi Is Fi?) It's more detailed than you need, but I found their Recommendations section much more actionable than TheWireCutter saying "Buy one these three devices we tried 14 months ago, trust us."

It’s 2025, yet it’s impossible to attach a personal note/comment to music on Spotify. 45 years since the post-it note came on the market and how is it still peak technology in the game of “why the fuck did I save this?”

Twitter, where clicking a "calendar.google.com" link can lead "Google Calendar" getting complete access to your account. Voiceover: In fact, it was not a "calendar.google.com" link nor was it a "Google Calendar" app.

My first rust ACP (API Change Proposal) was closed -- with the best possible outcome. 🏡 🎉 I was proposing a new API to replace the broken on windows and long-deprecated env::home_dir. But instead the Windows implementation was fixed and env::home_dir will be officially undeprecated in Rust 1.87.0!
