Taking it a little easier because of surgery during #endometriosis awareness month, which then moves to #adenomyosis awareness month in April. I was luckily diagnosed with adenomyosis about 9 years ago, so have had a few different management strategies before needing a hysterectomy.

Chatting with a friend recently and she said she’d been told by a medical friend that the best doctors are the worst communicators. This myth is so tiresome. If a doctor can’t ask questions well, can’t explain well, can’t work in a team, then they can’t be a safe doctor.

I’m still trying to feel settled with the amount of pain I was initially in post operative last week. It was excruciating. It was just in the first hour or so after waking.

Though did love the nurse saying to me, pointedly so my husband could hear “you should do no housework for 12 months”. 😅

There was a guest speaker at my child’s high school recently. When he asked for questions, my 12yo raised her hand and said "this is more of a comment than a question" and proceeded to correct him on something. Never been more proud 🥲😅

The job ready thing is amusing (and terrible) because if it were real everyone would have to study humanities to meet what most employers want and need in terms of skills - teamwork, communication, ethical decision making, leadership, systems thinking, lifelong learning, and critical thinking.

Sometimes I’m sad about losing my uterus and worried about surgery but then the severe cramping starts again and I can’t wait to get it out. It’s odd telling people I’m having surgery as people seem awkward when I respond that I’m having a hysterectomy like it’s suddenly too private.

Do I know anyone working on (in)fertility discourses or maternal health literacy?

Having surgery in a month (yeeterus) and it makes me wonder if I could write a "case report" for a medical journal but from the patient's perspective? How the medical reasoning unfolded through the course of my diagnoses and treatments that lead here.

Sciatica is back and I have no idea how I dealt with this for so long when I was younger. Sometimes I think I should have been angrier about this then I realised I literally did a PhD on communication because of my experiences. Instead I will be kinder to past me.
