What we're doing in the uni sector is shutting off routes for kids with Bs and Cs to do key (and prestigious) subjects, and closing down the ability of young people to go to the local uni just when it becomes ruinous expensive to go way. Will have incalculable consequences for social mobility.

The Senior Management Teams of our universities should never have been put in the position where they either had to or were empowered to destroy a key sector of state infrastructure piecemeal. Basic governance failure.

I hear this all the time, even though people know I work in a university. There's a real hatred of unis building up, and often people seem to like it: a fashionable pose that's congealing into conventional wisdom.
