From 1899-1925, you could go from Saline to Ypsi + into Detroit on interurbans. The Saline stub was abandoned in 1925 when Michigan Ave was widened - not sure if that was part of the creation of US-12, which dates from 1926 and uses Michigan Ave. Saline's population was <1000 for all this time.

It appears at least two student groups want to explore a BBG-1 concept this winter for their capstone project. Now I have homework to figure out what defines a battleship. Biggest/most weapons is what comes thru from the announcement, but that seems rather limited for students to explore.
