Countries warn citizens on Gaza-bound flotilla of imminent Israeli attack <article data-history-node-id="429149" about="https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/countries-warn-citizens-gaza-bound-flotilla-imminent-israeli-attack" class="live-blog-update default clearfix"> <h2> <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/countries-warn-citizens-gaza-bound-flotilla-imminent-israeli-attack" rel="bookmark"> <span class="field field-title">Countries warn citizens on Gaza-bound flotilla of imminent Israeli attack</span> </a> </h2> <div class="content"> <div class="field field-field-text"><p>Several countries on Wednesday warned their citizens on the Global Sumud Flotilla of an imminent Israeli attack, Al Jazeera Arabic reported. </p> <p>The flotilla declared a state of alert after drones flew over it, the report said. </p> <p>Spain on Wednesday announced that the country will dispatch a ship for possible relief, news agency AFP reported. </p> <p>The report quoted the Spanish prime minister as saying that the navy ship will assist the Global Sumud Flotilla.</p> <p>Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto also said he had redirected an Italian navy ship to head towards the flotilla to possibly offer assistance.</p> <p>Organisers of the expedition, which is attempting to carry aid to the <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/topics/israel-genocide-gaza" target="_blank">Gaza </a>Strip, <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/footage-shows-apparent-attack-gaza-bound-global-sumud-flotilla">shared footage</a> that appears to show an explosion that detonated on one of the flotilla's vessels.</p> <p>The flotilla was previously <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/flotilla-gaza-struck-drone-tunisian-port" target="_blank">attacked by projectiles launched by drones</a> while anchored in <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/countries/tunisia" target="_blank">Tunisia</a> on 8 and 9 September.</p> <p>Bringing together more than 300 activists from 44 countries, including Swedish climate activist <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFwlPH9ixB4" target="_blank">Greta Thunberg</a>, the civilian flotilla is the largest maritime aid convoy to head for Gaza since Israel began its genocide of <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/countries/palestine" target="_blank">Palestinians </a>in October 2023. </p> </div> </div> </article> https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/countries-warn-citizens-gaza-bound-flotilla-imminent-israeli-attack
