Getting ready for my BSky Book club July read. Like the other selections, I'm going in to this book without knowing too much about it. 👹 (There is still time to join in!)

Wind-Up Bird: I am glad the cat 🐾 is back. (And just like Creta, has a new name.) Favorite bit of this segment: "My reality seemed to have left me and was now wandering around nearby. I hope it can find me, I thought."

I'm going to read Rakesfall 👹with the Bsky book club 📖next month, and I'm already surprised, because when I read the description "science fiction epic", I was expecting a 600 page book, and didn't realize until looking at the planned schedule that this is a short novel. (Ebooks disguise length!)

Continued odd parallels in _Wind up Bird Chronicle_ 🐾 and _Japanese Gothic_. Narrator in both books sit at the bottom of holes (a well, a six-foot hole dug looking for an old grave site), contemplating life. Food, too, is prominent, but I'm not sure if that's just _Bird_ priming me to notice it.

I almost wish that today's reading of Wind Up Bird Chronicles 🐾 stopped at the end of Part 2, Chapter 9, because closing the cover of the well reminds me of closing the book. In any case, I am stopping here for a bit, leaving Toru in darkness between the covers. PS Still no sign of the cat.

_Japanese Gothic_ is an interesting book to read alongside _Wind Up Bird Chronicle_. 🐾 I have encountered wells, strange dreams, and internally weird spaces in both.

#WellWellWell In today's reading from The Wind Up Bird Chronicle, we come across an actual (dried-out, boarded up) well. And perhaps Malta's mysterious (well)spring was a second. Does the hashtag mean I should be looking for a third? Still no sign of the cat. 🐾

#WellWellWell 🐾 Chapter three, and we finally get our protagonist's name and description. I often notice the self-description moment, and keeping Toru an visual enigma until chapter 3 is an interesting choice.

#WrllWellWell 🐾 Reading _The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle_. I am unsure of the unnamed protagonist. I'm finding that I like him less because of his offhand remark about Kumiko's cycle, and what seems to be an incuriosity about what's around him. 🧵

After reading Catch-22 🪖during April, _Persuasion_ 🛁will certainly be a change of pace for the BSky book club. (I've never read this one either.)

My favorite bit of today's selection from #catch22 is Clevinger saying that they aren't trying to kill Yossarian, they're trying to kill everyone. (It's amusing in context.)

Listening to the backlog of the @friends-table.bsky.social podcast, and once again, @notquitereal.bsky.social 's music takes my focus so I need to rewind and listen to what people are actually saying. Makes me want to take up the clarinet again. Find his Bandcamp if you aren't into AP podcasts.
