A gorgeous hike up Slide Mountain, the tallest peak in the Catskills this past weekend. Combined with hiking the highest in NYS, Mount Marcy up in the ADKs a few weeks back, it has been a great summer.

Captured Orion, Mars, and Jupiter on a beautiful clear night yesterday. Orion is a touch stone constellation for me. He and I hang out in the winter while I’m grilling outside. Tracking his movement across the sky lets me know that spring will soon be here!

Using AI as a learning partner for code is amazing. You not only learn a lot from its suggestions, but also from taking the time to understand why it is wrong and needs to be refactored. 🧐

Suggestion I’ve seen floating around - When using AI, one should always type the code yourself, not just copy paste. - Solid advice for sure. Definitely helps you understand and integrate it better. Takes longer in the short term, but the long term payoff is huge.

Excellent points here from @robbowley.net. Junior devs bring a fresh perspective and curiosity. Just as the most successful individuals invest in themselves, the same goes for companies. Eliminating juniors for short term profit damages the leadership pipeline for future growth and success.

Progress as a software dev can at times feel excruciatingly slow (both personal growth and product development). There are two ways through it: constant frustration and stress OR consistent gratitude for small wins. The later is the way to find daily happiness and continued growth.

AI is absolutely redefining what it means to be a software dev. The path forward for us is strengthening our ability to creatively solve problems for people. Can we listen, see the big picture, and design solutions that will help make something easier for someone? Can we communicate that vision?

Great insight on modularity here. Particularly appreciate this gem —> Have interfaces designed for the cient’s needs (not “What does this module do?”, but “What does the client need to tell it to do?”)

A great day of coding today. Laying out user roles and auth for the app and SQL database. Having a blast building in stealth for a while, but excited to share bits and insights for now.

Currently building an app for a client that has three levels of RBAC (Role Based Access Control). Doing research hoping to head off as many problems up front as possible. Any insight from the hive mind would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
