@wmata.com Kudos to the C61 driver (bus 7061) who had to think quickly to identify a detour when Porter street was unexpectedly completely blocked & found a route that still made sure everyone could get on board and off, near the original stop, with minimal disruption.

The DC Council's own analysis confirms that their deal with the Commanders is bad for DC taxpayers, but we wanted to know what DC residents think. It turns out the more you share with DC residents about the deal, the more they dislike it. Big majorities want to see it change in big ways.

Carrying a @wmata.com umbrella turns out to be the fastest way to meet other good-natured transit fans. Not one but two strangers stopped me on the street today to ask where they can get a Metro umbrella and to talk about trains.

We don’t need a publicly financed stadium project to incentivize the development of housing near RFK. Think what we could do to address our housing crisis if we directed $850M in incentives directly toward housing.

35+ years of peer-reviewed studies confirm that publicly financed stadiums, especially publicly financed football stadiums, are a horrendous deal for taxpayers & for cities. Any public official proposing to invest in a stadium should be challenged to respond to those research findings directly.

NEWS: @schumer.senate.gov says the Senate will vote on a bipartisan amendment to fix the provision of the congressional spending bill that would force D.C. to slash $1.1 billion from its current local budget. But: It will then have to be approved by the House.

You know who isn’t spineless? The residents of DC. This week, the residents of DC made it clear that any GOP attempt to steal our rights will be met with thousands of people joining together to resist. We may not have a vote, but we have numbers and gumption and we love the hell out of this place.

The federal layoffs are bad and wrong for many reasons that deserve our attention and concern. Bogus distractions don’t help. The guy who created that video should donate the money he made off of it to mutual aid efforts or legal funds.

The GGWash team’s Metro Rewinds!

Over 16 days in late Dec/early Jan, I closed on my first home (a condo), renovated the bathroom, packed up my apartment of 11 years, moved, and unpacked. And then celebrated with norovirus. I’m still exhausted from it all but the new place is cute and in-unit laundry/dishwasher are LIFE-CHANGING.

Justin Timberlake joining the Bike Bus in Portland is the energy I want to see more of in 2025.

10 days ago, we announced the launch of a 501c3 arm, GGWash Commons. It’s been 3+ years in the making. At 2:15pm today I hit “send” on a fundraising email to cap off the launch campaign and the outpouring that followed over the next 15 minutes has me in tears of gratitude. ❤️

I had the good fortune to spend today in Philly with GGWash staff & board and other friends from across the East Coast for the @welcomingneighbors.us Northeast Regional Gathering. Grateful to all who organized — great day with pro-housing rockstars. (My first-ever SEPTA experience was A+, too!)

Any day that I get to take a train is a good day, but this pre-dawn journey is made all the better thanks to the shiny new waiting area at Union Station in a former retail storefront. Presumably, this is one of many changes resulting from Amtrak’s recent takeover of commercial space management.
