The Epidemic Intelligence Service was incredibly formative for me & 2 of the best years of my career. This is such a travesty and utterly thoughtless. EIS is the best of the best. They are losing those who could go into medicine, industry, etc & instead choose to make less to serve public health

The abrupt terminations of more than 1,000 employees, including new Epidemic Intelligence Officers, across CDC are deeply disturbing. For more than 70 years, EIS officers have served on America’s front line as its disease detectives, ready at a moment’s notice to respond to emerging outbreaks.

Apparently all institute directors are being asked to retire - this would set back NIH to the stone age
