In 1915, Lawren Harris and Tom Thomson came to the Oxtongue River and Algonquin Park. Together, they canoed the Oxtongue River and it is where Harris sketched the river’s lustrous greens and purple tones.

Yesterday saw us cross-country skiing in Algonquin Park, and all around us were hills and trees covered in snow, scenes much like those captured by Group of Seven member Lawren Harris in his “Winter Landscape," painted in 1916.

In 1920, he co-founded The Group of Seven, a collection of landscape painters who were dedicated to creating Canadian art through direct contact with nature. Thomson had died in 1917, but Harris considered him to be part of the Group of Seven. 🧵8/12
