folks: where has a good run of the Freeman’s Journal, and will scan from the print issues rather than microform? Trying to order good digital images of exhibition photographs as the INA/BNA scans are awful.

Interesting. A library decides they can’t renew a database because their users would immediately violate the license terms by using the university’s Microsoft products that have force fed copilot into everything. Great future we’re building here in the higher ed factory

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

This is a jaw-dropping statement from anyone in a uni leadership role — but also — what exactly is ‘low-quality’ and ‘hobbyist’ research? Nearly every academic I know is burning the candle at both ends and STILL producing important work in their fields. This feels like an anti-humanities dog whistle

This takes about one minute to do, it’s extremely simple, just a few simple questions, and you don’t need to be an artist to do it, it’s open to the general public. And the far right are trying to load it, so please take a moment and fill it out

This is really sad news to hear. When Painting Dublin came out in the depths of lockdown, Sean put together the most gorgeous audio intro of Dublin in song and text and then we chatted though some works by Harry Kernoff and Estella Solomons: it was such a bright spot in a dark time.

All famines are man-made, all famines are political. Historians of empire and humanitarianism have known this forever. Gaza is not starving, Gaza is being starved, by Israel, and this starvation is enabled by our government and by every other government that does not step in to force food and aid.

Best of luck to all the NCHDs starting in new hospitals today. May your swipe cards be ready, and your time on emergency tax be mercifully brief 🏥 (Several years into being a doctor’s other half, and the mind still boggles at how truly awful the changeover system is).

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only way to understand why Dublin is run the way it is, is to start with the assumption that the people in charge view its residents with nothing but contempt
