Breaking: The Trevor Project received a stop-work order last night on its contract with the national 988 suicide prevention hotline. The Trump administration is eliminating the option for LGBTQ callers to the hotline to press 3 and connect with someone who specializes in LGBTQ mental health.

#Pride
month, queer people don't need you to turn your logo into a rainbow. We need you to: 1️⃣ Speak up for trans rights. 2️⃣ Learn from LGBTQ+ scholars and activists. 3️⃣ Work to create a safer, more welcoming world. Quiet & "neutral" support isn't going to cut it.

NIH moved up the expiration date for some funding opportunities, effectively *canceling* the next application date without removing it from the standard table. I can't even imagine how many people are still prepping these grants. 👀 List of impacted opportunities:

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging." Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council. I wrote about my decision in TIME.

SOOTHING BIRD FACT 🐦 The only birds with truly green feathers are the turacos, which produce a unique coppery pigment called turacoverdin. All other "green" birds create the color through light's interaction with their feathers' molecular structure. 📷 René Cortin, via Wikimedia Commons

Today is the 35th anniversary of the Capitol Crawl, in which disabled activists discarded their mobility aids at the foot of the Capitol steps to climb them in support of passage of the Americans with Disabilities Ac. Jennifer Keelan-Chaffins, 8, told reporters "I'll take all night if I have to!"

I wish there was a way to quantify the collective amount of work lost due to stress and despair over the last few weeks, independent of barriers to funding.

Re-sharing a thread before I delete it from x because I think it’s a useful one: In a work email, we had a fantastic thread about the use of "stakeholder" — many collaborators have stated they do not want this term used, and scholarship has supported this.

Bus stops in Houston, Texas, can reach temperatures that put people at risk. The hottest shelters all had Plexiglas-like material on three sides, while those with an open design and canopy tree cover recorded cooler temperatures. 🧪 #ClimateWeek2023
