Read Rafael Bernal's His Name Was Death. Be interesting to read alongside Robert Merle's Day of the dolphin as a pair of novels showing the dangers of talking to animals. With dolphin they get infected by human corruption - in Bernal's novel it opens humans up to mosquito dictatorship.
