Back home after a fantastic (1st annual?) GDofNC game jam! We had 19 designers in 5 teams. And even the jam constraints were gamified. Each team took turns drafting components, mechanics, and themes from the list. It was a blast, and my team is going to keep working on our game, Kazoo Prodigy.

Took all weekend to overhaul this prototype to send to the publisher. It’s a bit of a beast!

The catch with taking on dev work is having less time for your own designs. But last night, I actually managed to get a raw new idea, Ooples and Banoonoos, to the table using some cards from Just One and the Panda GM OmniDeck.

Got this prototype back to the table to see how I could change it. I did not like how point-salad-y it had become. Core mechanism is clean, but I'd rather have a shared board and streamlined scoring.

Testing out a rules variant for A Message From the Stars with the kids. It removes the arithmetic for an experience that's still a non-trivial puzzle, but a bit more casual and family-friendly.

After Unpub, I decided that in order to have broader appeal, I would be re-theming my new zombie survival game. While zombies could work, I'd prefer the theme to be something that more players might gravitate towards. Taking inspiration from one of my all time favorite movies... how about Dragons?
