Instead of evidence-based policy, we get ignorance-based policy. Deeply disappointing. We hope Councils follow South Cambs example and ignore Reed’s heavy-handed (but ultimately impotent) rhetoric.

One to keep an eye out for 👀 On Jan 5th @ 6pm MPs will debate a petition relating to the length of the school week. The petition, which has received more than 126,000 signatures, states: /

Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth said her government has a "clear commitment to supporting teachers and improving education in Scotland". It’s time for the rest of the UK to show the same commitment. It’s time to explore a 4-day week in schools.

According to this Guardian report the UK has, “quietly launched the four day week.” Great! Now it’s time to make things loud. If we want a 4-day week for all, it needs to be codified in contracts, not done on the sly. Benefitting from Soft Fridays? Time to make it official.

I'm all for this. A good work/life balance should not be purely the reserve of the wealthy. No-one should miss out on spending time with loved ones or doing things they enjoy just to pay the bills. Life is for living!

Time is the most valuable resource we have. We sell it far too cheaply. It’s time to change that. It’s time for a 4-day week. ⏰

A 4-day week for all would strengthen families, communities, and the economy.

There is a sickness crisis - but luckily, we have a proven solution. One that: - Reduces absences - Improves health - Allows more to work full time That’s the 4-day week. If the Government is serious about tackling the crisis, they need to get serious about the 4-day week.

This is interesting! We need more exploration of a shorter working week in education. “Teachers reported improved wellbeing, more free time and financial savings, though some felt overwhelmed. Meanwhile pupils were largely unaffected and some benefited.”

Pilot after pilot has shown that shorter working weeks can improve productivity, retain staff and improve people's quality of life. Councils successfully shifting to a successful four-day work week should be celebrated, not criticised.

I have met Brighton businesses who have very successfully switched to a four-day week. Productivity, morale, staff retention are all up. Exciting research from Sussex University has shown it to be brain-altering! Positively changing anxiety, depression, stress and sleep quality.
