The poet Sally Read recited my translation of a poem by St. Teresa of Ávila in an interview last week. The poem riffs on Teresa's vision—being speared by an angel—captured by Bernini. "He pierced me with an arrow smeared with the poison of love, and my soul succumbed to be one with its Creator."
