Yeah my D&D final boss is a complex synthesis of themes and details from the games and literature I consume. I’m not ashamed to admit that among the greatest skills of an author is to borrow good ideas.

First Christmas of my life where we didn’t decorate, didn’t do the whole grandparents trip, didn’t do any of it. We stayed inside, celebrated with dinner together, spent all day playing board games. It wasn’t Christmas, but more so than any year I felt like we fulfilled the actual Christmas spirit.

TTRPG Question: do you enjoy good spirited moments in final moments of a major campaign arc where the players have a “Civil War” moment, where the moral consequences of their possible actions divides the party enough to battle over it?

Whomever I date needs to realize I am a quasi-sane dude. I’m just writing all the time. I eat, sleep, and am always designing TTRPG stories or pondering my book. While talking I’m having five conversations in my head about it. In the words of Toby Ziegler (Richard Schiff): “Only losers use paper”.

Gotta say, despite the weirdness and verbosity of Honkai Star Rail relative to the stories it tells, I am INTO how they’ve handled Sunday. I think he is probably up there in among my favorite supports, right with my main man Gallagher

The spectrum of opinions on the guy’s social media profiles are fascinating. I’m reading through and noting down this cultural moment. I’m curious to know more specifics of his messaging and whether people will be influenced by it. For documentation purposes, I hope his writing is made public.

“Speak” from the Parasyte OST is one of those really overly simple repetitive tracks that scratch the brain in such a way that soothes when you listen on loop. I’m likely biased though, since the show is one of my favorites.

As music is a primary motivator for my particular brand of writing and cognition, I tend to name each chapter towards a particular song. Sometimes it has symbolic parallelism with the chapter’s themes, other times it just has this *feeling*. Hard to describe.

When you’re writing your story, what do you want it to mean to you, beyond the outburst of words on paper?

Difference of opinion is totally okay. I for one don’t like cereal. You might. That’s cool. But on human rights? If you try to deny that, or restrict a human’s ability to be themselves and live peacefully, there is no compromise there. There is no “opinion” there. You are just spreading evil.

In my TTRPG group (dark fantasy homebrew with 5e 2014 content), one of my players made a binding vow to not speak aloud, a cultural tradition from her homeland for warriors of her discipline. It has since become incredible party bonding for her to tutor each member in her dialect of sign language :D

You can get so caught up in the plot you forget to give your characters personalities. Let them breathe and just be sometimes.

Nothing gives you a dopamine hit like finishing a chapter of your draft or making cool experimental homebrew spells/items for your tabletop players based on their requests.

Watch Dandadan. If you think you will like it, watch it. If you don’t, watch it. The manga and anime adaptation are among the most well-crafted pieces of media I’ve ever had the privilege to enjoy.

This is your reminder to drink water. Look around the room. Appreciate the beauty even in a mundane tree leaf, or how the light of the sun shines through your curtains. Taking a meditative moment to just contemplate can do wonders for reminding one what they are grateful for.

Victor LaValle’s “The Ballad of Black Tom” represents everything I believe the cosmic horror genre is designed to communicate. It is thoughtful, esoteric, and speaks to many struggles we live through. “I’d take Cthulhu over any of you monsters” goes HARD. I may be misremembering the line though XD

Regarding Honkai Star Rail, I just saw drip marketing for The Herta. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a character outside of D&D and seriously thought I could “main” them, but her story, design, and I presume her mechanics will be peak. I’m excited!!

Watching the show Severance feels as though I’m searching for rainbows in the mist of spilled coffee in a 70s corporate office after dark. Rod Serling’s going to come out any moment.

I have a befuddling blend of love and distaste for having written a damaged, edge-lord protagonist hellbent on vengeance. I dislike how common the trope is, but GODS is she so cool ❤️

The most troublesome aspect of writing for a highly intelligent, witty villain is having to come up with the clever, evil plan and personality yourself…
