When decades of progress were threatened, we didn’t step back. We pushed forward. From breakthroughs in HIV prevention to expanding access to lifesaving care, 2025 showed us why our work matters and why standing together is more important than ever.

5.3 million people didn’t know they were living with HIV in 2024. We’re working to change this. From Ukraine to Mozambique, we’re closing the access gaps in testing, prevention and treatment services. Since 2020, through The Rocket Fund, we have tested over 834,000 people for HIV worldwide.

We’re grateful every day for the resilience of our partners and the generosity of our supporters. From all of us at the Foundation, happy holidays 🧡

Today, the UK government has announced a new £170 million HIV Action Plan for England, a major step toward ending new HIV transmissions by 2030. At the heart of the plan is opt-out testing, pioneered by the @eltonjohnaidsfoundation.org, helping more people get diagnosed and into care.

This has been the toughest year for the global HIV response in decades. It feels like the world is looking away again. Every minute, someone dies from AIDS-related causes. Not for lack of tools but for lack of attention and political will. This #WorldAIDSDay, don’t look away.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a safe and highly effective tool to prevent HIV. Taken as a daily pill, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV through sex by about 99% when taken as prescribed. Last year our partners connected 37,000 people to PrEP, tripling our reach between 2023 and 2024!

Our response to the UK’s pledge to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria 👇

The pilot of a digital platform in Liverpool is due to launch this month, thanks to funding by Liverpool City Council and the @eltonjohnaidsfoundation.org, which will deliver PrEP directly to patients through the platform, removing the need for in-person consultations.

"The Foundation is a key part of Elton's legacy, and working to leave the world better than we found it is something we share with Elton and David, and in our philanthropic work around the world,” shares Tani Austin, @eltonjohnaidsfoundation.org Board Member and Co-Chair of The Rocket Fund.

Now is not the time to pull back support for LGBT people’s health and rights around the world. We have learned from AIDS and other pandemics, abandoning groups where it is morally or politically expedient to do so is not only wrong but dangerous to public health.

Half of the people newly diagnosed with HIV through NHS England’s opt-out A&E testing had dangerously low white blood cell counts, and more than 90% of those newly diagnosed had never been tested for HIV before. This data from @ukhsa.bsky.social shows how crucial routine, stigma-free HIV testing is.

Since 2020, The Rocket Fund has reached over 2.2M people around the world with HIV care. But there’s still so much more to do.
