One of the weird things about showing up every day to do art is that I'm getting better at doing art without the spark. Which, like, I realise is the aim but it's kind of wild that it's happening.

Got a couple pieces transferred over to canvas for painting, including a portrait on my first ever self-stretched canvas. I'm currently playing between moving permanently to Linen Canvas or gessoboard... it's a tossup.

General technique test for my big painting. I ... well the technique works but I also semi-rushed through this painting. I plan to take a lot more time with the proper painting when I do it. Then again, practice is practice.

Sharing a piece of work in progress/ prelim art. This is a sketch of a new painting I'll be working on, and I was just so proud of how it came out looking. The idea is a bit of fantasy mixed into a bit of darkness. idk what it'll be called in the end but for now I call it 'Beacon'.

The better part of valor is knowing when to stop. I miessed up mixing hair colors, so Im going to let this piece sit, come back in a couple weeks, and work on it again when I know Im ready.

Six months ago (Left) I started my first oil portrait, and I was extremely dissatisfied with the results at the time. I knew my forms were good, but I hadn't quite had a handle on skintones. Six months later, I think I have ENOUGH a handle to try and work on it again. And... it's coming out well!

Did some grisaille layers today. I'm still experimenting with my oil painting process, and I decided to try grisaille base layers for these paintings to see how they'd work. The left is a new still life experiment, and the right is a repaint of an older work of my digital era. #oil #oilpainting

Well, neither of my planned things happened BUT I did get the TARDIS painting varnished for my art show next week, and I stretched and sized a new linen canvas for a new test painting. Gonna gesso the new canvas probably on thursday, and I have an idea what to paint on it to test it.

I can't decide if I want to start work on my mango today or my flying sky-ray.

So I took some reference photos of a mango to paint a still life of one. And I just am sat here thinking... this mango was randomly grown with the intent of being eaten. And it will be eaten, but it will also be immortalized in an oil painting. Damned lucky mango.
