I had the HO layout to myself for half of Saturday, so I did something different and did some side-by-side mainline running between my 0-8-0 and the club's UP 4-8-2. My switcher is hauling a chartered passenger trip while the UP Mountain-type hauls tractors to markets! These two put on a show!

A recent addition to my fleet is this custom Athearn Heavyweight (heh) observation car painted for the 65th anniversary of Model Railroader Magazine. Someone upgraded it with controllable lights and a custom interior! I fixed some broken pieces and added figures for the final touch. Not bad for $50!

Man, I appear to be cursed with buying construction equipment with rubber tracks! I bought a bulkhead flat car that included two bulldozers... and both dozers had the dreaded decomposing tracks. The rubber is releasing the oil inside, becoming frail and brittle. One bulkhead was partially dislogded.

I anticipated a large crowd of members last Saturday for the annual club meeting, but practically none of them ran on the layout afterwards! I brought short trains for ease of running, including this train of vivid reefers and two cars custom painted by my father.

I sometimes forget that I don't need to run a stupidly long and sometimes troublesome train to enjoy running long trains. This is roughly the max allowable length during busy hours, and it still wow visitors! It also felt good running a solid train of Burlington Northern.
