Hehe! My beer can tank car finally rides the rails instead of being just a novelty on static display! There's one layout where something as big and awkward as this will run fine: around the Christmas tree! I swapped directions for tonight since I kept having derailments from running clockwise.

I know I had a good time at the train club a few days ago when all I have is a single video to share! I was having too much fun doing switching and running a candy train to take any photos or videos! My 0-8-0 came back to the layout for a day to organize some freight in the industrial area.

For the first time... actually this IS the first time I've had a HO scale steam locomotive pull a train around the Christmas tree at home! My little 0-8-0 engine, that's normally used for switching at the club, is celebrating its first Chirstmas (as an operating engine) at home. It sounds so good~

I've dragged my feet for 2 years on this project but it's finally done. This is a Walthers kit from 1978 that turns a beer can into a tank car! While it's not perfect... and it's actually too wide for the club layout, I'm glad to build and own this rare model train piece!

@interurbanera.bsky.social do you know anyone who can reverse engineer an out of production kit? I'm planning on building this Walthers beer can tank car from 1978... but maybe someone may want to recreate this kit to work with modern cans. I also scanned the instructions for fun and preservation.

Some train club photos from the last two weeks. I've taken it easy on long trains (for now) so I've been doing more switching and mainfest cargo scenarios. I finally own a steam engine, a little 0-8-0 that surprisingly hauls a lot more than it looks like. It's a fun thing to do switching with!

I found Geoffrey the giraffe yesterday at a train show held by my model train club. I ended up buying only one train item from the show... and it turns out it's a duplicate of one I already own! It was still cool to browse model trains and see lots of old Lionel, especially pre-war stuff!

Late last night, Amtrak train #98 was stopped at my local station for nearly an hour due to a crew change or refueling, so I drove by on my way home. I found a bard owl perched on a sign next to the station! It was observing the train before I got its attention when I rolled my window down. Neat!

I got bored on Saturday and painted one of the bland cars on the layout to look more life-like. What started out as a basic yellow Camaro became a proper Z/28 with painted hood vents, headlight surround, colored tail lights, body stripes, and even a black windshield surround. It's not a bad glow up.

I honestly had so much fun running trains last Saturday that I barely took any photos or videos! It was nice being able to run trains without headaches or having to spend time fixing other people's problems.

I'm not running trains today, but I'm doing maintenance on them for the upcoming holidays. However, there's still action on the club layout!
