So I asked this on F-List, but do you prefer a character's "endowment" in RP to be listed with specific measurements, or more vague and open ended words like "large" or "small"?

Huron Blackheart is now my favorite 40k character. His origin is so good, and the way he navigates the politics of the maelstrom is so awesome. I especially like how he respects enemies who don't kneel to them. He still kills them, but he respects their defiance because it reminds him of himself.

So for the past month I have been pretty exclusively been playing Single Player games. God, I missed this.

I take a page out of the book of Warhammer 40K Homebrewing: I keep things so low stakes that it's pretty hard for me to break canon. However they are high enough stakes to still be interesting.

Conquest.

His squad consists of a 6'4 man with strawberry blonde hair, large muscles, a love of animals and who babysits for Bleda. His name is Janos. There is also an androgynous demolitionist named Muki. They are 5'9 and has a big butt. They like hamsters. They have also commited war crimes.

I have a sci-fi character named Bleda who is 5'5, is in his mid 30s, and is a mercenary who sends all of his money back to his wife and daughter that he loves unconditionally. He has also commited some spicy war crimes.

So the big reason I don't really do RP in FFXIV outside of Discord is simply due to the fact that so much of it is... Simply not what I am looking for. So much of it is nightclubs, bath houses, and other stuff that Bohemond simply does not fit into.

For as fun as it is being an evil shitheal in KOTOR 1.... And boy is it, there is no worst selection of companions to have in an evil playthrough for an RPG than the cast of KOTOR.

Bohemond can't cook for shit so he does neither.

Paladin + Red mage. Duty bound knight who wants to protect the weak and a sassy fencing beauty who is always there to rein in the paladin when their balls are bigger than their brain.

And now I have begun the process of rotting my brain with Battlestar Galactica.

i REALLY like KOTOR 2's interpretation of the Sith. Focusing less on the Imperialism aspects of them, and more of the... Fucking death cult aspects. I like how menacing they feel in this game compared to how they are typically portrayed.

Also you could have easily made this analogy with Tigers. Aside form the fact they are solitary hunters, they are also typically stronger than lions. Tigers are fucking BUILT dude.

And look, I get expecting good writing from a few hundred page ad for a Tabletop War Game is a fool's errand, but come the fuck on. This is why I could never commit to liking the Word Bearers, despite everything I should like in theory about them.

They compared Space Marines, and the Custodes and the analogy was that while the Space Marines "hunt in packs like wolves" Individual Custodes fight "their own war" and don't work as a team because they don't need to. Which I have no issue with. However....

So Warhammer books are a toss up between absolute dross, really good stories, and "certainly a collection of words betwixt pieces of paper" But man, The Horus Heresy book "The First Heretic" made me drop it because of one DUMBASS line.

Never been much of a magic guy. Always loved swords and armor and axes. I do however like magic that basically negates the enemy. Stuns, causing fear, and my personal favorite, anything causes the enemy to be frozen in place, being made to watch as their allies are defeated.

I prefer when I can't see the protagonist's face in a battle scene. Looks six million times cooler than some goober going in without a helmet imho

So I am not a Star Wars fan. I am however a Kotor fan, and that is namely because it's what I grew up with, and I still love it to this very day.

So I finished my yearly Kotor 1 playthrough (gonna get started on 2 tonight). I do love how when I was a kid, I was so dumb that my builds were always so poopoo peepee bad. Now my builds are often so much better that I absolutely shit on everything in a matter of seconds.

Like every single positive thing you do in that setting basically amounts to NOTHING beyond xp, credits, and gear. You help people pay off their debts, as well as helping cure the Rakghoul disease, and it amounts to essentially nothing. I kinda like that. I think it was a bold move.

So I think the destruction of Taris in KOTOR is my favorite example of "the starting area of an RPG being annihilated" trope. Part of that is due to nostalgia, granted, but I think it goes deeper than that. You spend the first hour of the game helping (or hurting) a lot of people on the planet.

So I read the Red Corsair short story "We Were Brothers" and man, I think I have my new favorite Chaos Space Marines. CSMs that actually have a motivation for falling to the Dark Gods that didn't amount to daddy issues, while still being a bit more nuanced than just "we craved power".
