Rare early views of Hawaii (1860s, probably/mostly H. Chase studio) from Charles de Varigny's own albums (in private hands with his diaries). De Varigny befriended King Kamehameha V and became Hawaii's Minister for Foreign Affairs (1865). Hopelessly hoping for enough research time to work on it...

Amazing time at the Scuola Superiore Meridionale/ Napoli with great students. Took time to visit St Thomas Aquinas's cell where he wrote some of the 8.5 million written words he squeezed out of his brain in his lifetime. Vaguely hoping that gazing at his humerus will help me finish my next article.

Reflecting on the potential colourisation of stereoviews of the 1867 Paris exhibition since DeOldify and other solutions hallucinate colours (collodion loves UV+blue, but red not so much). Here is a tinted stereoview published at the time. Food for thought on authenticity (+ on how to scan those!)
