This was an opportunity that the government missed the importance of. The reason our published children’s books are constantly improving are thanks to their publishers learning from overseas opportunities like this.

We have a government that laments falling literacy rates but doesn’t seem to make any connections between that and books - whether it’s school libraries or supporting the local children’s publishing sector to thrive. I despair.
