Aoshima 1:2000 scale USS Enterprise I rather like this thing. The stand, however, is pretty rubbish. No matter - I've ordered some black velvet so that I can photograph her better 🖖

Tonight Mathew, I shall be mostly cooking a gammon joint in cider in the slow cooker for around six to seven hours, before removing the skin, applying a honey glaze, and finishing it off in the cooker for maximum yummathyness 👌

Aside from the less than ideal stand, this does have some very nice touches. The saucer section impulse engines can be turned off, as they were used only when the ship was separated. For aesthetic and very scientific arty farty reasons, I prefer them all to be on 😎

This was, frankly, a bit of a pig to finish! A lot of the screw hole blanks don't fit, and have to be filed, while others are loose and have to be secured with special, very technical, Starfleet issue, and warp capable blu tack. Also, the stand is poor & could be much better than it is 😕

Jeeze! This was manufactured around 2012, meaning these LR44 batteries are, let's say, well past their best! 😳 Fortunately, I considered this, and have new ones to fit.

Dear Aoshima. This is not an 'escape capsule'! It's the Captains yacht! 🤔😕

Screw holes have blanks to conceal them. I saw someone who glued the hulls together, because it "separates too easily" when being handled 😳😣😡 I shan't do this but, if necessary, I shall use blu tack, instead - which is also the correct colour & far less permanent 😉😎🖖 Note not to scale bonus shuttle

As this can be displayed complete or separately (each section is independently lit) magnets are used to keep the sections together.

These were made around 2012 and only released in the Japanese market so are not cheap and are pretty rare.

FYI Aoshima made three versions of this. One is a much darker colour, with false and more intense colours, this one is true to the filming prop colours, and then a third USS Yamato version.

Today... Er, yesterday, I decided it was time to open my second special delivery of the day...

The Taito Thunderbird 3 is, surely, the largest :miniature available today. It is extremely accurate to the filming prop. Typeface, detailing, colour - all absolutely spot on - as is the smaller Konami ❣️ The Corgi, on the left, however... not so much 🤔

Introducing the Aoshima 'Mini' series die-cast Thunderbird 1 And it's a cracker ❣️

For a long long time now, I've been after an illuminated 'Big D' And finally, one is on her way... 🖖

I've rearranged the top shelf completely, to accommodate the new addition of the second Aoshima Thunderbird 1 Yes, it needs a good dusting, but is now far less chaotic 😎

Righto - that's the Halloween prep done...

It's also now accurate to the actual filming prop

For those confused about the undercarriage flap positioning - to the right of the flap, in orange, is how it's fitted, and to the left, in green, how I should have fitted it. And, indeed, now have 😎👍

I was looking at my shots of TB1 and suddenly noticed that I'd, very expertly, stuck two of the undercarriage flaps on the wrong way around. Fortunately, having used highly scientific Blu tack, and not the sticky pads supplied, disaster has been averted. Phew! 😎

And voila! Thunderbird 1, undercarriage down, in the round 😎 Nice, innit?

Thunderbird 1 special edition update. There are differences in the markings, as well as the weathering. Length is 187 mm (note £1 coin for scale) Both have nose cannons and remote camera pod. The undercarriage installation on the S.E is going to be fiddly. More tomorrow 😎

Here she is. Clearly never opened and still in the original cellophane. These Aoshima 1:200 scale die-cast miniatures are rare and no longer made. This 'special edition' versions are like hens teeth ❣️
