The comment period for a sham “climate science” report commissioned by the DOE closed earlier this week, and the verdict is in: the scientific community has overwhelmingly and resoundingly rejected the report. UCS submitted comments on the report, and here are the four key points we made:

Today, I alongside colleagues of @ucs.org have submitted our public comments to the DOE report that completely undermines climate science and misinforms the American Public about climate change and its impacts to our well-being and our environment.

The Department of Energy hired five academics to raise doubts about climate change. 85+ climate experts (organized by @andrewdessler.com) reviewed their report. Our conclusion, detailed in 450 pages of analysis: it is biased, full of errors, and not fit to inform policy making.

More than 85 scientists say that a recent U.S. Department of Energy report is full of errors and misrepresents climate science.

Our comment on the DOE CWG report is done. It tips the scales at 439 pages, approx. 3x longer than the DOE report. This is related to Brandolini's law: The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it. Example: refuting one sentence.

Check out this article in AP on the Trump admin permanently shutting down SSMIS, which provides essential data for hurricane forecasters. ‘“What happened this week is another attempt by the Trump administration to sabotage our weather and climate infrastructure,” Alessi said.’

Notably, websites like heat.gov, drought.gov, and weather.gov remain untouched. So why target Climate.gov? My take: it’s a troubling attempt to bury vital climate science, making it harder for the public to easily access and use this information.
