A British Airways flight and they’ve run out of tonic water. I would have assumed tonic was on the MEL and would make this aircraft inoperable. I was offered gin and lemonade. A raised eyebrow from me and wine and Diet Coke were dispensed.

Took longer than normal for the inflight wifi to be switched on. I was getting jittery. (My colleague Simon likes to regale the tale of flying to Chicago with me when they announced 30 mins in flight that they wifi was inoperable. He claims I ‘just checked’ every 20 mins. I maintain it was hourly)

Reminded myself that South African Nando’s hot, is hotter than UK extra hot. Just over 20 years ago I tried SA Extra Hot without knowing the consequences and it literally ended in tears.

TWO STEAK TUESDAY After a miserably delayed and uncomfortable journey, I have basked in the glory of well priced steak and wine in South Africa. Lunch was a 700g T Bone and dinner was a 700g Tomahawk. Both with a glass of Pinotage. Total bill for both was well below just one meal in London.

53 days since the last flight. Next stop, Johannesburg.
