Enjoyed my re-read of the second Saga of Recluce book by #l.e.modesitt. A further examination of the magic system and its technicalities, and the impact wielding has upon the welder. The book is about Creslin the Weather Mage, Megaera his consort. Marvellous world building.

Thoroughly interesting lecture by @drsturg.bsky.social tonight at Birmingham Symphony Hall. Thought provoking themes mapping the development of Christianity in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. Exploring the organised nature of religion as opposed to faith. Promoting the book Domination.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. #5 in The Old Man’s War series. Cleverly composed set of short fiction pieces, bringing the story together. Marvellous @jscalzi.bsky.social

I’m half way through my second pass of A Quantum Translation and I’ve got to say it’s feeling good. I took the time to write this one. I do have a few interludes chapters to add, but that won’t be onerous. I think it will then go off to my editor.

Got a few bargains off tinternet. 3 pounds sterling ish each. I do like reclaiming ex libris books. Love #tadwilliams . Remember how excellent Otherland is, don’t remember much about Shadowmarch. Back in the day I’d read a 800 pager in 1-2 days. A lot of it didn’t stick.

I’ve edited/expanded 3 chapters of A Quantum Translation. I think for the first time ever I am happy with a first draft chapter, just minor punctuation tweaks.

Finished this amazing opener to the Liveship series last night. I absolutely love @robinhobb.bsky.social books. Everything is so alive in those pages, and not just some of the ships.

Between jobs at the moment. Long story. But I have plenty to keep me occupied. I’m getting The Raven’s Message ready to publish, I’m doing a second pass on A Quantum Translation, and my dark half is writing a police procedural under my nom de plume. Oh and there’s cricket on.

New read. As ever #StuartMacBride books are tightly written, darkly funny, and starkly murderous. Great opening 50pp. The trampoline scene is funny. 🤣

Might just have finished my 5th novel and 7th book. A Quantum Translation, first draft, is finished. I’m an under-writer, starting with brief description and dialogue, so now I will now go back and flesh the world out.

I think the Facebook post says it all. However, it’s nice to celebrate six years as a published author. The story was The Magpie’s Call, which ended up in other publications including Impossible Fruit. I will be embarking on developing this into a full length novel next year.

Really enjoyed my reread of the Farseer Trilogy by @robinhobb.bsky.social . It’s probably 10-15 years since my last read. Fitz is one of my all time favourite characters along with Pug, Garion, and Nynaeve. I’m continuing onto Ship of Magic.

Starting to get some order on the shelves. Still too many books. Lots still in storage.

Finally I’ve got across the 50,000 word line with A Quantum Translation. It’s been a slog with holidays and work, but I’ve finally got there. I reckon it’s going to come in about 75k in total, but I’m an adder, so I’ll be going back and adding another 10-15k. Huzzah!
