I recently watched a movie called The Island, a 2005 sci-fi movie by Michael Bay of all people. It really really works for about half of it, but it unfortunately raises the question: does it fall apart because Michael Bay, or because 2005?

Animals that went extinct just a few thousand years ago make me so sad. We were SO CLOSE. We couldn't have Allosaurus, but we could absolutely have mammoths, but we missed it.

Iron Lung wasn't just good but surprisingly great! The budget shows in places but in others it looks incredible, especially the phenomenal creature effects. A lot of people have said it's too long, but I found the pacing perfect myself.

Park Chan-Wook's movies all seem to ask the same general questions. What makes people into monsters? What makes us cross the lines society draws? Is it the failures of society itself that make people break the rules?

The most interesting thing about evil to me is how people live within it. It seems that no matter how wretched, nobody wants to be evil. The way we use existing frameworks to set ourselves up within evil, to do evil without compromising how we see ourselves, is fascinating.
