This puts the histrionics National has been running about the $229M Labour and NZ First spent on ALR and the $180M WCC spent on LGWM into context. But we do need to get better at not politically committing to build specific stuff before realising its the most unaffordable, unbuildable version of it

save me from local politicians posting on reddit to wring their hands, type mealy mouthed pre-rehearsed party-line responses and whinge (kindly!) that actually the better things you want aren't possible and you're wrong and bad for wanting them.

remember the last time we cut red tape in construction and outsourced building assurance to private certifiers, increased self-certification and accepted statements from builders that everything was compliant without checking?

Renting a petrol car for a road trip I'm left with a few impressions: - I haven't missed the awkward kick down when changing gear - not a fan of the trend of tiny square steering wheels - how is my 10 year old leaf nicer to be in than brand new Stellantis slop? - buying petrol sucks now?

Management's obsession with AI makes sense when they already see their job in cybernetic terms as an anastomatic reticulum: they don't really know what they're doing, or why they're doing it, so to avoid being blamed for inevitable mistakes they outsource accountability to the AI.

Underrated component of the "vibecession" is constantly feeling like Cassandra because you can see this sort of shit coming from a mile away, but the apparently smart people in charge of these companies, in the media, in politics can't. Stuff's not just bad, it's dumb and bad.

SpaceX: our rockets can get supplies to anywhere on the earth in 90 minutes, they'll replace aeroplanes. Rocket Lab: we just set a record by launching a rocket only 17 hours after getting the go ahead. Idiots: I see no contradictions here.
