There was a period in LA history where this was a fairly common thing -- a big main house and then a subdivided series of apartments on the rest of the lot. Central Los Angeles still has a lot of them! It's a really cool way to create density w/o losing "character" and I'm glad it's coming back.

Update! The map now shows what's being upzoned to 16 units (red) and what to only 10 (orange). In the LA Basin 61% of parcels are red, mostly thanks to rail lines that don't exist yet - Sepulveda, D Line to Westwood, and K Line North.

Here’s a more-detailed overview of LA’s SB 79 proposal TLDR: It’s actually pretty close to being a workable ordnance, but there are two major issues (height & 100% affordable projects) that need to be addressed

LA's proposed SB 79 standards have dropped... For 1/2 mile from a T2 transit stop, they allow 10 units with 2 FAR, with max height of 2 stories. It's physically impossible to fit 2 FAR in 2 stories. In fact, with setbacks, it's impossible to fit 2 FAR in 3 stories!
