One thing I love about design is how it alters the way you think. Walking down the street, you start wondering why people love certain places, how old institutions can improve with modern tools, and how design adapts as people’s needs evolve🤔

Skimmed some papers in writing group today about how Japan developed its sensitivity to daily life and aesthetics🤔 It was interesting to learn how Shinto blended with Buddhism and how works like The Tale of Genji still shape modern culture.

Why love the creative arts? Making things and appreciating different forms of arts all cultivate sensitivity and a unique lens for seeing and understanding the world. All of this helps develop taste which distinguishes not so good from ordinary, ordinary from good, and good from the timeless.
