My siblings got my a 3D printer (probably so I'd stop bugging them to do small print jobs for me) and the Arrow is my first attempt to 3D print a flying plane. Have a look!🧑‍✈️

@ubermeisters.bsky.social @dano.build: I think you'd both be interested in this as it deals with both 3D printing & 3D scanning. They used a 3D printing 𝘱𝘦𝘯 to do touchups so I checked Amazon & they're really inexpensive! I found one that will do 250°C with variable flow. It'd be handy for touchups!

It may not look like much right now, but this is a landing gear mount for the last 3d-printed RC wing project. I refuse to hand launch that thing since it has a propeller on the rear. 😂 So, on go some minimal landing gear.

Now this is cool! Recycle your old paper and make seedling cups! 🌱 I bet the kids would love using it too.

🛫Flying FPV RC Avro Arrow Update🛬 After a day of 3D printing using expanding foam filament and follow up scrimshaw sanding and touchups, all the parts of a flight 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 FPV RC Avro Arrow are ready to assemble! The full weight of all the Arrow parts is 14 grams, one gram under my target weight! 😎👍

🛫Flying FPV RC Avro Arrow Update🛬 36 hours after the expanding foam filament arrived I've printed all the parts for a powered Avro Arrow! It took 6 tries to dial in the 3D print settings to balance the strength vs. weight of the inner wing section that anchors the motor & landing gear but I got it!😎

I've been converting small toy RC planes to FPV for five years now and recently got a 3D printer to see if I can up my game! Fixed wing doesn't get enough love in the FPV community. I intend to change that!

@dano.build @ubermeisters.bsky.social My foaming PLA filament arrived today! I've done some reading & think I've found the right settings, I printed Avro Arrow nosecones until they turned out right. Now I'll try my Arrow fuselage halves in spiral vase mode to see how much 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 weight savings I get.🤞

🛫Flying FPV Avro Arrow Update🛬 I assembled my first 'flight scale' Avro Arrow today! Although its still too heavy to fly powered even using the light weight PLA, it weighs the same as my target weight of 26 grams for the powered version. So this'll be my glide test article to find its balance point.

As one myself, I've coined the term 'neurodiverse' over the recently adopted 'neurodivergent'. Like every other name for us (which I 𝘸𝘰𝘯'𝘵 post), this is derogatory and implies an 'us and then' connotation. Also, neurodivergent suggests that there is a 'normal' of which the divergent 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯'𝘵 part of.

By this point in September, I treat every tomato sandwich as if it will be the last one of the season. There’s no room for error now.

🛫Flying Avro Arrow Update🛬 I've been adapting for flight the Avro Arrow model @ubermeisters.bsky.social so graciously cleaned up for me. I added landing gear bay, motor mount & streamlined slot for the propeller to the inner wing. Amazingly, the print worked on the first try! Not bad for an newbie!😎

Thanks for showing interest in my RC stuff. I was born with 10% vision and always regretted not being able to become a pilot. I couldn't fly regular sized RC planes because they fly too far away for me to control. 15 years ago I started building & flying micro RC planes. Now I put cameras in them! 🧑‍✈️

🛫 Avro Arrow Update 🛬 Now that I've got a good model of the Avro Arrow thanks to @ubermeisters.bsky.social, it's time to fit the FPV gear in the cockpit! I lowered the cockpit's floor to accommodate the FPV gear and separated the canopy into two parts to make it easier to line up the camera angle.

@dano.build I've printed my first flight sized Avro Arrow using pre-expanded PLA. It worked out great with a lot of help and mentoring from @ubermeisters.bsky.social. It's still a bit too heavy so I ordered 3DLabPrint PolyLight 1.0 LW PLA. Is this similar to the filament you use for your RC planes?

🛫Avro Arrow Update🛬 I stayed up late to finish my 1st flight sized 3D printed Avro Arrow! It's printed in a 12 parts, seen here minus the canopy which @ubermeisters.bsky.social is doing for me. The fuselage halves are printed in spiral vase mode while the wings and tail are printed with sparse ribs.

@ubermeisters.bsky.social @dano.build: I've been dissecting the Avro Arrow! Most parts will be printed in vase mode but the inner wings will have infill to support the motors and rear landing gear. I removed the intakes so the fuselage can now be printed in vase mode. It just passed its fit check! 😎

🛫 FPV Flying update 🛬 I'm trying something different. I'm repurposing this wonderful vase mode glider I found on Printables into a powered RC plane! I've enlarged the model to squeeze as much wingspan as I can fit on a Bambu A1 Mini. It won't be pretty but if it flies, it'll be a start!

@ubermeisters.bsky.social @dano.build: I'm 3D printing a CF-105 Avro Arrow, a Canadian supersonic fighter jet from the late 1950s. It was mysteriously canceled and the flying prototypes scrapped a few months before I was born. Many of the company's engineers joined NASA to help the Apollo Program.

🛫 FPV Flying Update 🛬 My last print of a MiG 29 fuselage was and utter fail but that how one learns! The MiG 29 didn't have enough supports and it tipped over part way through. Bambu Studio lets designers choose where to put tree supports so I shored up the fuselage so that doesn't happen this time.

At 32 grams it'll be 𝘸𝘢𝘺 too heavy but there are some internal structures the can be removed.
