If you love quirky RPGs/dungeon-crawlers and have yet to give Dungeon Encounters a try, I would highly recommend doing so now. It is an absolute *gem* of a game!

One tip I'd like to pass along to folks playing (and maybe struggling with) Stray Children: feel free to grind! To do this, though, you need to kill the Olders you encounter. They'll continue to spawn if you kill them. Once you pacify them with words, you won't encounter them anymore.

The more I play Stray Children, the more I believe it's a gem of a game that deserves to sit next to Moon: Remix RPG Adventure.

While playing through Stray Children, I've been keeping notes on the words I've used in battle to help/pacify each Older (the game's "enemies"). My notes for the game's 4th boss: "Don't know. Killed him." ๐๐๐

Struggling with Stray Children and can't find any helpful info in English? Here's a great Japanese guide I've been using as needed:

You know, as much as I'm loving most aspects of Stray Children, I'm also finding certain aspects of it quite trying and annoying. I can't help but feel like a lot of folks might bounce off this game in frustration despite how beautiful it is otherwise :(

While playing Shiren the Wanderer DS last night, I encountered my first whole-floor Monster House of the game. Hell, it may have been the first one I've encountered in *any* Shiren game. Regardless, what a thrill! Though it was actually less tense than expected in the end.

After learning his cult '90s RPG influenced Undertale, this Japanese developer finally got 'the courage' to make another RPG decades later thanks to Toby Fox
Yoshiro Kimura's new game Stray Children is a spiritual successor to Moon: Remix RPG, but it has more than a little in common with Undertale.

One of my favorite things about playing a Shiren the Wanderer game is how it gets me to think, "Yeah, I could probably just keep playing this for the rest of my life."

And by the way, go play Tobu Tobu Girl. It's free! It's brilliant! And that of course includes its OST. Seriously, one of my all-time fave GB games, period.

Well, I put a couple of hours into Shiren the Wanderer for the Nintendo DS last night. Yep, it's Shiren alright! :D Actually made it pretty far without dying, too -- and even then I probably could've avoided it had I not been rushing to the next rest stop. Anyway, onward and upward!

I'm in a real Nintendo DS kind of mood at the moment after finishing Hotel Dusk and Last Window back to back. I *think* I'm starting through Shiren the Wanderer next, but I also have Flower, Sun, and Rain and Chrono Trigger at the ready...

It would be weird if Bubble Bobble were meant to have an anti-alcohol message. But it was also be weird if it didn't, given how the ending plays out.

Finally finished Last Window: The Secret of Cape West for the Nintendo DS last night. This was my second time through the game. First time happened in 2019. Strangely, most of the game's second half seemed new to me -- I'd forgotten what happened over the last six or so years.

Are the "Game Over" situations and screens in Hotel Dusk and Last Window for the Nintendo DS the best in all of gaming? I'm here to argue that, yes, they are.

Finished my most recent playthrough of Hotel Dusk last night. 'Twas a wonderful experience, as expected. Actually, I think I enjoyed it even more this time around than I did last time. Every element of this game is so damn good. It's a travesty that developer CiNG no longer exists :(

Got to see Clue (the 1985 film) in the theater last night. It was, of course, wonderful. Strange to only see one ending, though. The film really benefits from seeing the three available endings (even if only one is considered the "real" one) back to back to back, IMO.

Still plugging away at Hotel Dusk, maybe an hour or so every night. Still loving it. That said, I think I agree with
@unctions.bsky.social
and find Last Window's moodier vibe more appealing overall?

I said I would cherry UFO 50's Barbuta, and I did -- late last night, if fact XD TBH, I didn't actually beat it without dying. I "cheated" by buying back some eggs before tackling the final boss. I didn't die while fighting it, though, so I'd say it still counts.

Made a *lot* of progress in Barbuta last night and especially this morning. I've now seen at least 3/4 of the map. Got a few new items, too. I love this game! A few things are still stumping me, but I'm going to plug away at them a few more times before resorting to spoilers.

I think I've plateaued in UFO 50's Magic Garden, so I'm going to pivot away from it (temporarily!) tonight and focus on Barbuta :D I've taken a casual approach to Barbuta up to now, but tonight I'm turning things up a notch and creating a map (on paper!) that'll hopefully help guide future attempts.

I spent waaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much time playing Magic Garden (in UFO 50) yesterday + last night. I am now fully obsessed and won't stop until I top the leaderboard. I got to about 10,000 points last night, so still a way to go. Anyone else love this one?

I watched the entire first season of Twin Peaks somewhat out of the blue over the last week. I nearly didn't get past the pilot, which I initially found bizarre (in a bad way) and off-putting. Once I got into episode two, though, I was hooked. Anyway, what a ride! Can't wait to start season two...

Welp, UFO 50 has been bought. Wasn't intending to buy it right away for various reasons, but I'm too curious about it to wait. Plus, as much as I'm enjoying playing my PC Engine again, I desperately need something to play that isn't tied to a TV. Anyway, going to dive into it tonight! :D
