Folks know Dark Auction, an upcoming PC/PS5/Switch game written by Rika Suzuki (Another Code, Hotel Dusk), is releasing in Japan on Jan. 29 and will include English, right??

Lost in the shuffle and wake of yesterday's Nintendo Direct was the fact that no Kyle Hyde Collection was announced for Switch 1/2. And for that I am sad :(

You know, that weirdo Pokemon x Animal Crossing game seems kind of brilliant in various ways. I overlooked it when I first watched the Nintendo Direct this morning, but it keeps coming back to me.

I sometimes think Nintendo is like that person you love -- and kind of hate -- so much that you just want to hug and squeeze them until they pop.

When this morning's Nintendo Direct began and it went through all of those draft illustrations of various Mario games, did anyone else think it was leading up to a reveal of a new, hand-drawn 2D Mario game??

Finished my most recent playthrough of Hotel Dusk last night. 'Twas a wonderful experience, as expected. Actually, I think I enjoyed it even more this time around than I did last time. Every element of this game is so damn good. It's a travesty that developer CiNG no longer exists :(

Got to see Clue (the 1985 film) in the theater last night. It was, of course, wonderful. Strange to only see one ending, though. The film really benefits from seeing the three available endings (even if only one is considered the "real" one) back to back to back, IMO.

Still plugging away at Hotel Dusk, maybe an hour or so every night. Still loving it. That said, I think I agree with
@unctions.bsky.social
and find Last Window's moodier vibe more appealing overall?

I said I would cherry UFO 50's Barbuta, and I did -- late last night, if fact XD TBH, I didn't actually beat it without dying. I "cheated" by buying back some eggs before tackling the final boss. I didn't die while fighting it, though, so I'd say it still counts.

Finally finished Barbuta! What a fun, interesting, challenging game ^_^ I'll definitely go for the cherry later, as I think that's totally doable at this point.

I think I'm going to need to replay Hotel Dusk and/or Last Window again soon. Both games keep creeping into my mind, and who am I to ignore a message like that?

Made a *lot* of progress in Barbuta last night and especially this morning. I've now seen at least 3/4 of the map. Got a few new items, too. I love this game! A few things are still stumping me, but I'm going to plug away at them a few more times before resorting to spoilers.

I think I've plateaued in UFO 50's Magic Garden, so I'm going to pivot away from it (temporarily!) tonight and focus on Barbuta :D I've taken a casual approach to Barbuta up to now, but tonight I'm turning things up a notch and creating a map (on paper!) that'll hopefully help guide future attempts.

I spent waaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much time playing Magic Garden (in UFO 50) yesterday + last night. I am now fully obsessed and won't stop until I top the leaderboard. I got to about 10,000 points last night, so still a way to go. Anyone else love this one?

I watched the entire first season of Twin Peaks somewhat out of the blue over the last week. I nearly didn't get past the pilot, which I initially found bizarre (in a bad way) and off-putting. Once I got into episode two, though, I was hooked. Anyway, what a ride! Can't wait to start season two...

Welp, UFO 50 has been bought. Wasn't intending to buy it right away for various reasons, but I'm too curious about it to wait. Plus, as much as I'm enjoying playing my PC Engine again, I desperately need something to play that isn't tied to a TV. Anyway, going to dive into it tonight! :D

So, I still suck at Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair for the PC Engine. I also still enjoy playing it, though ^_^ Actually, I do well enough during the first section of each stage, but I tend to blow through lives during the second section. All of those pesky minions and their beach-ball attacks XD

Returning to J.B. Harold Murder Club on the PC Engine tonight. And maybe Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair, too. I adore the latter, but also suck at it. You'd think such a cute shmup would be easy, but ML is *tough*! I always seem to use up all of my continues by the fifth or sixth stage (out of 14!).

I finally got to see Fantasy Zone's famed ending screen for myself just a few minutes ago after I *finally* beat the PC Engine port's last boss! What a thrill :D But now how will I spend my free time?? (I've been playing this game for a few hours every day for the last couple of weeks.)

I was recently reminded of an old blog I used to frequent -- The Brothers Duomazov. The two guys (I think?) who ran it reviewed nearly every PC Engine + TurboGrafx-16 game available. I've been reading through its posts via Wayback Machine over the last week or so. Good times.

I started playing through J.B. Harold Murder Club on my PC Engine a few days ago. This is a game I've wanted to play since it was first announced way (wayyyyyyyyyyy) back when. Not sure why I didn't buy it then, but whatever. Anyway, it's cool! Antiquated and a bit rigid, but that's to be expected.

Something else I spent a good amount of time on this weekend was the PC Engine port of SEGA's Fantasy Zone! My skills have improved greatly over the last week, and I'm now able to get to the 7th stage, Pocarius, with some regularity. Could I actually reach the game's credit roll soon???

I also read Vol. 16 of Laid-Back Camp over the weekend. TBH, this is the first one that somewhat disappointed me. As far as I can remember, it featured no camping (!!) or cooking (!!). Also, it ended just as things were picking up. Hmmmm :( Hopefully things will get back on track with Vol. 17.

The more I play SEGA's Fantasy Zone, the more I appreciate some of the things its developers did to fuck up folks who play it. Like the twirling coins that downed baddies drop and you can't help but chase -- sometimes right into an oncoming enemy or bullet.

My PC Engine adventures continue today/tonight with Fantasy Zone and Shanghai. The former isn't exactly "arcade perfect," but it's good fun anyway. (I also still suck at it.) The latter is not something most modern gamers would bother with, TBH. It's fine, though -- except for the dreary OST.

Played some more PC Engine last night. Bomberman, R-Type I and Splash Lake this time around. R-Type, especially, still rules. I kind of suck at it now, but that's OK. I still love playing it ^_^

Name five games you'd play at any time. Not your top 5 of all time, just five games you'd play any time. Flying Hero (Famicom) Kirbyโs Epic Yarn (Wii/3DS) Sanrio World Smash Ball! (Super Famicom) Shining Force (Genesis) Tobu Tobu Girl (GameBoy)

I doubt this is really how it's going to play out, but I kind of like the idea of this being the last gaming "generation" I actively take part in/care about. There are so many old/older games I want to spend time with, but I can never seem to get to them while focusing on new stuff, too.
