#setopolis This challenge has been very insightful for me. It has allowed me to think way more clearly about what is in my world, both in Vuldrull and beyond it. I think this has also helped me to see what is important in a setting and how it affects how the characters live. #writing #setting

I think my job interview went very well today. The hours are not as good as I would have hoped, it’s part-time 25 a week but not horrible. It is at a manga store, so if anyone has manga suggestions, please let me know.

Started putting together a big world map, and there’s no better place to start then Vuldrull. The map is a little bit, blurry due to the size and zooming in, but I think it gives a decent idea of the countries’s layout and resources. Above the nation sits the wild lands of the north. #wip

Vuldrull is familiar with external and internal conflict. Currently, it is having a bitter dispute between its closest neighbor about territories, as the other nation claims it has had land stolen. On the other hand, there is civil unrest in the country due to the detour from the old ways.

Right now, the strange thing happening in Vuldrull, is that for the first time in the country history, the king has hired the assistance of a wizard. This is unheard of in the nation, but this new and revolutionary wizard is starting to impact commerce trade, and progress of the nation.

How it feels working on a self-imposed deadline

I have never been a huge fan of writing long scenes of travel where characters aren’t talking. I try to skip past travel time as much as I can, but sometimes it can’t be helped. Basically, just when the characters aren’t interacting and they are stuck in the same environment you’ve already described

I really love writing dialogue, more specifically I love writing, intense exchanges. Or even better fights that have witty banter between them or emotional exchanges. I’ve always loved writing people talking to each other and describing expressions of pain or heartbreak. Or good things too lol.

Well, I am a weird person to ask this question because my entire new fantasy project takes that question to the extreme. I’ve created a magic system where wizards try to understand magic the way that we try to understand science. To me there is a little difference.

Because of the harsh environment and hard work of the citizens, the nation sees it as very important to hold festivals relatively often. There are four large festivals held every year seen as one for each season, these are looked forward to by the people and draw big crowds, local and not.

Vuldrull has a strange relationship with its neighbors, its closest neighbor by land is actually the nation that its founders escaped from originally. Their relationship is tense at best. but because of its rich resources, the nation has strong bonds with oversee allies. Like the orcs.

Vuldrull is strict about crime, but doesn’t believe in the idea of imprisonment for those who have already received trial. Crime is usually punished by banishment into the elder Grove. This deters most small theft, but because of the rare resources of the region smuggling is common and organized

In Vuldrull towns are controlled by merchant lords. While not exclusively the way that towns are structured many towns and even cities are formatted as specific manufacturing sites. Such as masonry towns or carpentry towns. Masters of the craft usually taking local government.

The biggest draw Vuldrull from the outside is its religious freedom, and it’s high value it places on skilled laborers. Unlike other nations, its nobility is based on skill in a craft . As a new nation, there is also untapped possibility that others are drawn to. A new world for the bold.

The easy answer to this question would be taverns and bars, but there are more options than just drinking. Despite its hostile environment, the people of Vuldrull have a very strong musical theater scene. Partially as an escape from reality, but also to keep tales alive. #setting #writing

In Vuldrull most of its people take a place in one of the many trade guilds. The majority of export that the country produces is fine crafted goods. The country exports large amounts of weaponry and metal as well as coal and its other unique resources. Many residents are also miners for a living

Others in the capital city the country does have a large amount of man-made landmarks. One of the most important of these landmarks is the shrine that was built to commemorate the defeat of the trolls. This large shrine was built at the edge of the Elder Grove, but now is consumed by foliage.

Overall the building style of Vuldull is based on a mix of historical building designs as well as some fantasy designs. The nation utilizes very dwarven architecture with sweeping ceilings and geometric designs, but instead of hard blocky angles the building structures usually have curved shapes.

I have just been wandering around downtown today, seeing if any places are hiring. The short answer is no. But on the positive side, I bought a retired Lego set for less than 20 bucks. And I’ve had some lovely conversations. I’ve applied for a couple things online, so we’ll see. 🤞

The nation of Vuldrull is very young compared to most of the other nations of the world having only existed for around 200 years at this point. This makes it a shock to its neighbors as it expands its boarders every year. It controls all of the Elder Grove at this point and far beyond to the coast.

In Vuldrull there is a shocking melting pot of religions that have been put in the same place. Due to the original population of the nation being refuges they all came with their own beliefs and gods. Unlike most other nations Vuldrull also has a strict separation of church and state. #setting

Vuldrull is a nation that is ruled by strength of character, they are a monarchy that functions with a council of laborers that find pride in their crafts. Many other nearby kingdoms, political dramas are looked down on as the people of this nation believe in blunt honesty. #setting

While I know they speak the same general language of the region they are in a don’t have a tone worked out about it. But I do know that they have a very particular ascent and slang that is unique from other nations around them. #setting #language
