April 23, 1945: The US Army liberated #Flossenbürg concentration camp, where they found 1500 critically ill prisoners. Between May 1938 & April 1945, 100,000 people (84,000 men & 16,000 women) from over 30 countries were imprisoned there. Over 30,000 perished.

81 years ago on April 22, 1945, #Sachsenhausen concentration camp was liberated by the Soviet army and the Polish 2nd Infantry Division. Many Dutch resistance fighters that had been held at Kamp Amersfoort were send to Sachsenhausen and were often executed. @sachsenhausen.bsky.social

April 19, 1945: Camp Amersfoort was officially handed over by Karl Schöngarth, the head of the Sicherheitspolizei and the SD, to Red Cross nurse Loes van Overeem. She remained as camp "caretaker" until May 7 when the Canadian Army officially liberate the camp. #RememberHistory

April 17, 1945: "The girl with the red hair" was executed by Dutch Nazi officials in the dunes of Overveen, near Bloemendaal. She was 24 years old. #RememberHistory #USAtoday

We received 57 letters from prisoner Antoni Slagman. He was arrested for evasion of the Arbeitseinsatz. On August 14, 1943, he was locked up in Camp Amersfoort and was given prisoner number 930. kampamersfoort.nl/nieuws-archi...

April 8, 1943: That morning seven men were taken from concentration camp Amersfoort to the Leusderheide (a large heathland area) by the camps SS officers. One by one they were executed with a shot to the back of the head. The men were all members of a resistance group. #RememberHistory #USAtoday

June 3, 1944: That morning a transport departed from SS KL Herzogenbusch – Camp Vught - with 496 Jewish men and women that were transported to #Auschwitz-Birkenau. This transport was known as the Philips transport as all the Jews on it worked for the “Philips-Kommando”. #RememberHistory #USAtoday

July 9, 1943: The 17th train that had left July 6 from #Westerbork arrived at #Sobibor . In the cattle wagons were 2417 men, women and children. They were all murdered within hours of arrival. Grietje and her husband Israël de Groot were on this train. #RememberHistory #USAtoday @sobibor.org

April 9, 1942: 77 Soviet (all from Uzbekistan) POWs were executed by the SS at Camp Amersfoort. They were killed receiving fatal neck shots. The Uzbek prisoners were used for propaganda purposes, to show how primitive and barbaric the communists were. #RememberHistory #USAtoday #KampAmersfoort
