21.09.1934 | 8- year-old Esther van Tijn lived with her parents and brother in Leiden until March 17, 1943. On May 14, '43 she was murdered in Sobibor. Her father survived Sobibor by selection. He wrote two postcards from labor camp Dorhucza , he perished before Nov. 3, 1943. 👇🏼1/6

On day 4 of our youth trip, we reflected on the perspectives of perpetrators, victims, and bystanders. We visited the former labor camp and SS training camp in Trawniki and, in the former ghetto of Izbica, we linked Stanton's 10 stages of genocide to the Holocaust and to the present day.

On the final day of our Aktion Reinhard study trip 2025, we conclude our journey in Warsaw. It has been a powerful and deeply moving week. We just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part and our guides for making this such a memorable experience.

20.09. 1928 | Regina Halberstadt was a fur seamstress. she was born in Belgium in 1926 and lived in Amsterdam since 1930. Regina was murdered with her mother in Sobibor on July 16, 1943. Her brother Barend survived the war by going into hiding. He died in 2004. 👇🏽1/3

A moving day on our youth & study trips. We visited the Włodawa Synagogue & train station, placing flowers to remember the past. In Sobibor, we learned about the death camp, heard family stories from descendants, and held a memorial at the field of ashes. We ended the day with a theater performance.

Day 5 of out study trip: From the preserved memory of Mińsk Mazowiecki's Jewish cemetery to the chilling silence of Treblinka, specifically designed and built for the murder of Jews. It had the second-highest number of victims after Auschwitz. It is estimated that 900,000 Jews were murdered there.

19.09.1910 | Diamond worker Louis Worms was a son of Simon Worms (1883-1931) and Schoontje Rodrigues. His mother remarried to Mozes Sterzel after his father’s death. They were murdered in Sobibor on June 4, 1943. Louis a month later on July 16, 1943.👇🏼1/2

Day 2 of our youth trip in Eastern Poland, was an impressive day. We walked through Jewish Lublin and then visited Majdanek camp. The testimonies of prisoners and the many barracks, gas chambers, and thousands of shoes of the murdered victims of Aktion Reinhard made a deep impression.

08.09.1932 | Benjamin Cohen was known as Bennie. A boy who loved to play with his friends. His childhood took place in The Hague and Amsterdam and from 1939 in Bodegraven, where he lived with his parents at Kerkstraat 119. He was murdered in Sobibor only because he was Jewish.👇🏼1/2

Day 5: Alter Flughafen camp in Lublin, where unimaginable horrors unfolded. Here selections and the collection of stolen goods took place. Majdanek, which served as a POW, concentration, and death camp. Here Aktion Erntefest, the largest single-day massacre of Jews in the Holocaust, took place.

The youth trip from The Sobibor Foundation has also arrived in Poland! 🇵🇱After a warm reception at the Dutch embassy in Warsaw, the young people visited the former ghetto. They have now arrived in Lublin to spend the next few days delving into the history of Aktion Reinhard in Eastern Poland.

17.09.1922 | Branca Philips was one of eleven children born to Nathan Philips and Heintje Krant. Only two sisters survived. She lived at Nieuwe Amstelstraat 29-I in Amsterdam. Branca went into hiding, was betrayed and murdered on July 23, 1943 in Sobibor. 👇🏼1/3

Day 3: Józefów shows how the line between ordinary police officers from Hamburg and mass murderers blurred in a horrific way. A former forced labor camp for Sinti and Roma is now nothing more than a dilapidated parking lot. Bełżec, the 1st extermination camp of Aktion Reinhard: 500000 were murdered

16.09.1902 | Marianne Frank. The Franks were the only Jewish family in Ochten. Their store was closed on Saturdays because of the Sabbath. Their Jewishness hardly played a role in the village. However, the German occupiers murdered Marianne Frank in Sobibor only because she was Jewish. 👇🏼1/7

Day 3 of our study trip took us to Trawniki, an SS training and labor camp. Then to Izbica, a former shtetl that served as a transit ghetto to Bełżec and Sobibor. The day ended at the cemeteries of Izbica and Piaski, which now serve as popular hangout spots for local youth. A poignant contrast.

Day 2 of our study trip was dedicated to the history of Jewish life in Lublin and the perpetrators of Aktion Reinhard. We visited the former ghetto, the perpetrators' buildings, and listened to moving testimonies. The day concluded with a visit to Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre.

15.09.1885 | Mietje Leverpoll married Leo Frijda on Febr 18, 1914 in Borculo and lived in Utrecht. They had 3 children, a 2 y/o son died in 1918, one daughter survived, their son Izaak perished in Auschwitz in 1944. Mietje and Leo were murdered in Sobibor on May 14, 1943.

Our annual study trip on Aktion Reinhard has begun in Eastern Poland. Day 1 was a visit to the beautiful POLIN Museum in Warsaw, exploring 1000 years of Jewish life. Today we visit Lublin, where the operation's HQ was, to learn about Jewish life there and the perpetrators.

12.09.1892 | A double birthday. The couple Isidor and Marianna de Lange-Leefsma were born on the same day in September 1892 in Amsterdam and they were murdered on the same day in May 1943 in Sobibor. They both lived to be 50 years old. 👇🏼 1/7

11.09.1923.| Betsie Mok-Turksma was a daughter of Rozette Turksma-Benninga and Jacob Turksma. She was an assistant cook at the Jewish hospital in Haarlem in 1942. In the same year she married Noch Mok. Betsie and Noach were murdered in Sobibor in 1943. 👇🏼1/6

05.09.1919 | Remembering Jacob (Jaap) Amen, born on this day in 1919. He broke Nazi-imposed Jewish laws by marrying Inge Molijn, a Catholic, on Feb 7, 1943. Two months later, on April 6, he was murdered in Sobibor. He lived in Rotterdam and worked as an office clerk.👇🏼1/2
