This bird died & landed by me. Likely hit a reflective window thinking it was sky. Sad. Toronto has Bird Friendly Guidelines that applies to new buildings through the Toronto Green Standard to avoid this. Ever see dots or patterns on windows? Birds see those, which helps avoid strikes like this.

I think you’re great, Montreal. But I don’t appreciate the ad campaign that blocks public views of the Roy Thomson Hall courtyard & water feature from the PATH (which leads to a subway station). This is usually clear glass & sunlit. (A photo from outside & a photo from inside).

It’s a gorgeous day! So many people out on the sidewalks. Lovely! But to walk my haul of plants home, I am taking the laneways for the generous room they offer. Nice to see them transitioning to permeable surfaces. Photos of a permeable one (newly done & looks good) & an impermeable asphalt one.

Back in Nov we were in Mtl & randomly got caught up in Habs fans heading from St. Catherines area down to the Bell Centre on Saturday night, and it was such fun. So tight and cozy around the arena, tucked into the city. How it should be be. Archetypal.

Excited to share the updated plans for Ookwemin Minising on the Toronto waterfront, a new community for 21,000 residents. New features include the Centre Commons, a pedestrianized space running through the heart of the island (design by SLA, Allies and Morrison, Trophic Design, GHD).

Attended a Community Environment Day at Dufferin Mall. Disposed of some batteries & light bulbs, some electronics, donated some clothes. Free compost being given out. It was more effort, but I’m glad I cycled there. A busy line up of cars, but I was able to cycle right up: felt a bit like a VIP.

On the Bathurst streetcar rn. It’s been a while, but I was just reflecting on how much better it is with the red painted transit priority lane.

Yesterday I was at Committee advancing an affordable housing project with a day care, & Indigenous place making. Today I’m visiting industrial users, including those making electric bikes, temporary architecture, & 3D metal printing components, public art, etc. Good couple work days!

Really fascinating documentary about Arthur Erickson “Beauty Between the Lines” screened last night at TMU. Recommended.

We remember. Sometimes I make mistakes & find myself in a grocery store at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year. Yet an announcement was made, people stopped moving, & fell silent. Quite moving that it happens everywhere.
