Let's talk about binary search. It might be one of the *first* things you learn about when you study algorithms. But what *is* binary search really? This is not a trick question. I asked around a bit and I didn't get quite the same answer more than once.

Algorithms engineering is a bit weird as an experimental science. Processors, computer architecture, operating systems: all of it is actually designed. It's even designed to go fast!
