Part 2 is now out, and it contains some really good recommendations which I fully endorse. One of them I found particularly interesting: there should be more „low entry“ options for publishing. Not every result is a breakthrough, but it might still be worth publishing. arxiv.org/pdf/2509.09877

#HALG25 agsin had some really nice talks today, my personal highlight was the one by Xi Chen on a query-efficient way to find a fixpoint of a contraction map. He even mentioned our recent work on this problem :)

This week, ETH hosts #HALG25, the conference „Highlights of Algorithms“ (2025.highlightsofalgorithms.org/index.html). The conference started with a great survey talk by Yael Kalai on quantum cryptography. Despite no real knowledge about quantum or cryptography, I learned a lot from her talk.

Very happy that the grant proposal I wrote got accepted by the Swiss Science Foundation. Together with Deborah Oliveros and Bernd Gärtner we will study aspects of Tverbergs theorem. The project also funds a postdoc in Mexico and a PhD student at ETH. Looking forward to mentoring my first PhD student

I‘m at #EuroCG25 this week, so I‘ll again write about some of my personal highlights. The first highlight is the location, we are in a beautiful castle in Liblice, outside of Prague.

I first got into smoothed analysis and linear programming during my master's. Now, 9 years later, we finally have matching upper and lower bounds. I spent a huge part of my life on this, and it feels weird that it's now finished.

It is impossible to put into words what a force of nature Sayan Mukherjee was. The field of TDA is better for having him as a part of it. The world lost a wonderful person this week.
