Anyone else having problems with "invalid handle" appearing instead of your normal handle? Re-verifying it is supposedly the way to fix the problem, but I've re-verified it several times over several days and I'm still getting this error.

Extremely disappointed in Bluesky for this. Let's be honest: censorship of any kind is always used as a tool by the powerful to abuse the weak. The people targeted and silenced by these new rules will be small artists and regular users. Not the serial harassers, nazis, or lying corporations.

During Obon, many temples perform segaki -- services for hungry ghosts, called gaki, who exist in a state of perpetual suffering from thirst and hunger. Although it is difficult for gaki to find salvation, this act of compassion helps to reduce their suffering by a small amount. -> yokai.com/gaki

One of my favorite Obon traditions is that many temples put their "hell scrolls" on display. These scrolls depict the path that leads to the underworld, and the various tortures that take place in hell. A reminder to everyone of what awaits them in death... -> yokai.com/meido -> yokai.com/jigoku

Many parts of Japan have local superstitions about going out to sea during Obon. That's because the boats that carry the dead souls from the underworld to the world of the living are sailing on these days, and you might bump into a wayward spirit! Stay away from the water during Obon!

August is ghost month here in Japan, so I'll share a few more ghost stories this month. Probably my all-time favorite Japanese ghost story is the story of Kohada Koheiji. I did a write up about him here: yokai.com/kohadakoheiji Part spooky, part funny, this is a 10/10 ghost story!
