Good gods. I work 60-80 hours a week because I LOVE what I do, it's my passion and a major part of my world. But you can't expect this of everybody--you just can't. People need time for their passions and their families.

Non-academics: if you see an interesting academic paper on here and you can’t access it due to a paywall just email the author and (depending on the state of their inbox 😜) they will generally be thrilled you are interested in their work and send you a copy.

If you want your writing to come to life--figure out what you love about it and pour yourself into that. Learn how to write characters who are three-dimensional, who have quirks, flaws, strengths, and who make mistakes. Whether they're a wolf shifter, a tree nymph, or human--make them relatable.

I love using disparate elements that shouldn't go together, but actually do. I love making the gods living, breathing entities who walk the earth beside us. I love making vampires rule the financial systems (it tracks, to me). I love the Shifters forming unions, the witches bring magic to life.

Why do I write urban fantasy? Because I love it. I love the whole family of choice element that's in almost every one of my series. I love the underdogs fighting against the Big Bads. I love the reluctant chosen one. I love the contemporary setting meeting the fantasy elements. I love what I write.
