This is the woman who Trump wants to lead education. Linda McMahon wants to turn our education system over to private school vouchers and threaten special ed services for students in need. We need to stand up for our public schools.

But I am really concerned about the ideological blinders McMahon showed in her reflexive support of private school vouchers. Vouchers do not improve education. Studies show they have a negative impact on student achievement and siphon off money from public schools.

Conservative billionaires are funding a coordinated effort to dismantle public education to pay for private school vouchers that largely benefit wealthy families and enable corporations to avoid their fair share in taxes. Now they have a friend in the White House.

I hope Texans realize a $10,000 school voucher isn’t going to put a dent in $30,000 tuition that is likely to increase due to vouchers. It’s not going to touch the textbooks you’ll have to buy. It’s not going to go toward sports fees or activities. School vouchers are welfare for the wealthy.
