Well that's weird. Usually the descriptions mention their stalked apothecia having a positive KOH reactions, but I've never seen one mention the thallus having one. This green area was transparent initially. I think that's happy weird, not "oh no" weird this time. A fine line indeed.

Some undetermined calicioid fungi on an unsual host tree. I've got high hopes that this could be someone weird. My sources tend to list known host trees for calicioid species, but Amelanchier (serviceberry) is not one that is listed.

An interesting find yesterday was the uncommon Tephrocybe rancida (Rancid Greyling). The smell is described as rancid or mealy. I thought that it smelled mealy. #fungi #mycology

Peronospora gei on Geum macrophyllum New to me This one was a surprise. In person I thought I had just found another powdery mildew, but what I had actually found was a completely unrelated pathogen called a "downy mildew". Downy mildews are not fungi at all.

One weird thing I didn't expect when learning wildlife is that in many situations people can post wildlife photos I can narrow down which part of the globe they live in based on the mixture of plants in the background If the FBI/CIA haven't been hiring botanists they'd have to be asleep at the wheel

Met up with an online friend today. Probably should have met up with them in a different parking lot. By meeting them at Tim Hortons their first impression of the town I live in was basically the trailer park boys. Hopefully the chaos is at least funny in real life.

Apparently when I was like 10 I got bored and made a big chain out of all of mom's paper clips. She's apparently been waiting the past 20 or so years for me to ask for a paper clip, because when I just asked for one I was just given the whole chain and told it's my problem now.

My right shoe is at the right bottom of the photo (I'm a size 7, 23.5cm). 🍄 Either I'm shrinking or these mushrooms are so huge, I'd love to crawl under them 😍 Are those... prince mushrooms?

The dead have been keeping secrets. I think there's a lichen on one of these headstones that's quite common in Europe, but has only been reported in Canada a couple times.

Went to the wrong place today because apparently the road grew over, so my "first side road off the main dirt road" mental image of where I was going took me well past where I was trying to go. But I did figure out which overgrown side road is THE overgrown side road for next time.

Found the most adorable tiny crimped gill mushrooms. Each one is only about a centimetre in diametre. We've had a ton of rain this fall, so the fungi are thriving right now. 🌿

I present to you: The reason I never have gas money. I just went to show someone some P. millegrana photos yesterday and saw a lichenicolous fungus in the background of the photo growing over what appears to be Polycauliona, but I could easily mistake for a Candelaria/ella.

Since no one has come to correct my interpretation of this word, I hereby declare this lichen Dryside Rockshag Lichen (Ephebe hispidula). S1 in Nova Scotia.
