I can't find the neat chart I found a while ago anymore, but the thing with armenian dialects is that a good number have voiced aspirates (notably Karin, Mush, Kharput-Erzincan, Hamshen, Cilicia, Arapgir, Suceava, and various subdialects), and a chunk of them have [tʰ d dʰ] type systems.

I think vowels being "invented for greek" has very little to do with the semitic consonantal roots vs IE morphology, or semantic load in general, and a lot more to do with greek in particular having a ton of vowel-initial words.

i don't get it when people say that abjads are *suited* for semitic languages, because shouldn't it be the reverse? yes, i get it, the consonants represent the root most of the time. but if the morphological information is all in the vowels (50% of which just get unwritten) doesn't that cause [...]
