If you haven't heard much from me, I'm trying to catch up with some freelance while I'm wearing a back brace. It's draining. I've got one more week left of full time hours at work, and then I'll be dropping down to part time. I'm looking forward to pushing on with more artwork soon.

After sharing a lot of older work I can see that I need to draw a lot more in the present. I work on big projects or massive personal drawings and then sit back. I need to be more prolific. I used to draw in my sketchbooks all the time. I need to be less of a perfectionist.

The Ghost Machine - from pencils, to inks, to digital colour.

The process of “The Return”. It stated as a sketchbook drawing, which I then refined into a large pencil drawing. I inked over the pencils using a lightbox, and then scanned the inks to colour the image digitally.

I've been going through my archive looking for sketches and preliminary drawings for a project, and I wanted to share how I build up my images. I realise it's something not everyone sees all the time. Pencils, inks, digital colour.

It marks 10 years since I started making these giant drawings. I remember starting them in a slump and they ended up becoming the thing I was most known for. I hit a block but allowed myself as much time as I needed, making these images purely for myself.

The best way I can describe my situation at the moment is, I’m loving life, but life doesn’t love me 😂

Lovely print by @jackteagle.bsky.social with beautiful frame from Glasgow Framing Workshop. When I went to pick it up yesterday I forgot my receipt and had to explain "uh, it's a picture of a giant skeleton carrying a dead astronaut" which did help narrow it down a bit

I’m redrawing an old image from over ten years ago based on the arcade game Final Fight. It’s getting there. I like this revision much more.

I have had two "long dreams" in the last week and it has completely scrambled my brain. I feel like weeks have passed, and I was certain of events happening that never actually occurred. I've been detangling the thoughts and I feel very strange.

I'm struggling with the minutiae of colouring this image. It's taken a long time to work on in my spare time, but it's getting there. It's not finished yet. I don't think the start/stops have helped, but it's good practice.

Dead Astronauts

Over a decade ago I was going through a terrible time, and I couldn’t draw, but I had a compulsion to mark make for months. I wonder if it was hypergraphia? I’ve been scanning them for use in work and it’s really clicked. It’s given everything a real handmade touch.

Here's an animatic/ short animation I made close to 20 years ago in university. I think it was originally supposed to just be static shots to create a proof of concept animatic for pitching, but I really wanted it to work as an animation. I wish i had a higher quality file size

Going forward in 2026 I need to make a conscious effort to draw everyday. I’m warming up in my sketchbook everyday before I start work on projects, especially to take the stiffness out the initial drawings and so that I have a good flow going.

I was hoping to finish this in colour in time for Christmas but work came in and I underestimated how much time I had spare. I hope you've all had a nice Christmas, and Happy New Year. I hope this image spreads a bit of peace and goodwill to all!
