You'll see an uptick of highly skilled, brown-skin workers in the fields being pictured in UFW content as they post through it. Farm work is incredibly difficult and remains among the absolute most exploited occupations. Farmworkers deserve and have a right to their own unions.

The line in its statement that the UFW was helpful enough to bold, it's the nastiest kind of spin, i.e., outright deception: "The Times reviewed hundreds of pages of union records, confidential emails and photographs, as well as hours of audio recordings from U.F.W. board meetings."

Welp, just did a quick scan and UFW spin is already getting some traction w/ folks and holding on to donors. Union is taking it "seriously", won't march in Cesar Chavez Day, they're processing and everything will be "trauma informed". The child abuse was back in "historic" times. We're awesome now.

As this unfolds, recall that UFW and its affiliated entities control enormous financial resources and have never been shy about deploying high quality public relations and strategic communications to spin away from their broken trust with farmworkers

🚨 UFW and the Cesar Chavez Foundation are "establishing a safe and confidential process for those who wish to share their experiences..." Never give info to potential defendants. Talk to employment lawyers instead. Survivors have until 12/31/2027 under CA's law extending statute of limitations.

Any labor, philanthropic, academic, or political institution or person with ties to or influence over the UFW must use it to accomplish the divestiture of assets to survivors and to a trust for the founding of a new union of, by, and for farmworkers.

There's no coming back from this. The UFW knew, covered it up, and its structure enabled impunity. Solidarity w/ the survivors 💔 UFW structure, which former members like Frank Bardacke have pointed out, disempowers farmworkers. Labor establishment has said nothing. Filipino manong strike leaders purged, labor complicit in erasing the historical memory. Yemenis erased. Latinx radicals pushed out.

We have a verdict and we are heartbroken at the results. This is only the beginning. We will continue to fight the remaining charges until every defendant is home.
